DISTRIBUITO IL 29 aprile 2008,

APPELLO A TUTTI I PARLAMENTARI

Grazie dell’attenzione e buon lavoro a tutti Voi!

STOP THE SLAUGHTER ON THE ROAD!

APPEAL TO ALL THE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

Our dear Senators and Deputies, today the sixteenth legislature begins and we hopefully address our appeal to you.

The road accidents, in our country, are a real national emergency: every year, more than 6,000 people die, over 20,000 become serious invalids and more than 300,000 are wounded! The European Community has asked us to reduce road accidents, before the year 2010, by at least 50 per cent.

During the past legislature, some steps, though timid, in this direction, were taken, by Members of Parliament belonging to all the coalitions.

We wish that the number of deputies and senators truly inclined to impede slaughter on the road were ever higher. And that, both the government parties (very strong, thanks to their ample majority) and the opposing parties, could work together, in order to resolve a very important problem for all the citizens, regardless of their political ideas.

We think that, to prevent the accidents, everybody must do their duty: institutions, industry, users of the roads.

First of all, the law courts must stop underestimating the harm and the seriousness of the crime; and they must put an end to the slight punishments, never expiated, for those who despise the rules of a civilized society and human life itself: favouring the guilty means discrimination and damage for the victims and Civilisation, propagating in the Society the message that it’s possible to commit a crime with impunity!

The A.I.F.V.S. has been in the front-line for years, in giving human comfort, psychological and legal support to the road victims; and in putting pressure, respectfully but precisely, on all the political parties, so that they begin to consider road safety and assistance to the victims more important.

We feel the greatest sense of collaboration and trust towards you all, representatives of the Italian People.

Also during this new-born legislature, we’ll carefully observe your work, be ready to praise publicly all who will commit themselves in order to solve the problem but, at the same time, be very firm in notifying public opinion of those who won’t cooperate, perhaps to protect particular economic interests!

Many thanks for your attention and good work to you all!

The AIFVS asks this Government a new policy:

To work as hard as possibile for the welfare of the people,

To stop the violation of victims’ dignity!
